The standard NHS prescription charge is £9.90 per item. If you pay for your prescriptions, this rate applies unless you’re exempt or hold a prepayment certificate.
NHS Exemptions
You may qualify for free NHS prescriptions if you meet certain criteria, such as:
- Over 60 years old
- Under 16 years old
- Aged 16 to 18 and in full-time education
- Pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months
- Having a specified medical condition or disability
To claim an exemption, please provide valid proof when ordering your medication. Claiming free prescriptions without a valid exemption may result in a penalty charge of up to £100.
NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC)
If you regularly pay for prescriptions, a PPC allows you to obtain as many prescriptions as needed for a set price, potentially saving you money. To use your PPC with MedWell Chemist, simply add your certificate details when placing your order.
